EMAG develops end-to-end production solutions for soft machining and turning of CVT transmission components – interlinked and monitored.
CVT transmissions are taking on ever greater significance in automotive manufacture. For example, the technology is increasingly being used in hybrid drives, where they perfectly unite the driving power of combustion and electric engines. In addition, demand for them is increasing generally in Asian countries especially, as the continuously variable gear ratios make driving easier in densely populated big cities in particular.
Soft machining in transformation
For production planners in the automotive industry, this trend means increasingly demanding requirements: the manufacture of the central CVT pulleys and shafts needs to be largely automated, fully traceable, and controlled by a central master computer – and all of that is already true for the initial soft machining by means of turning machines, washing units, and marking units.
From marking to washing
With this in mind, EMAG has developed complete interlinked solutions for CVT soft machining. The forged raw part first passes through a laser marking station that applies a data matrix code to each component, ensuring 100% traceability of the process. Next, the first and second sides are turned using two VTC 200-4 pick-up turning centers from EMAG. Hardening is followed by grinding processes on two HG 208 machines, and a washing process. Multi-stage measuring systems assure component quality.
Everything from a single source
The “turnkey” quality provided by EMAG is of critical importance: The process is planned end-to-end, perfectly designed, and equipped with a central control architecture. The customer can outsource all project planning.
