KUKA has opened the next chapter of Industrie 4.0 by presenting the largest networked smart factory demonstration in their history under the slogan “Hello Industrie 4.0_we connect you,” at EMO Hannover 2017.
Individualized products created in our smart factory
To make demonstrations memorable for everybody, individually customized souvenirs were produced on-demand for each visitor in the operational smart factory. It is a demonstration of how mass-produced, individualized products can be realized with today’s digitally networked manufacturing processes. While software and robots interact in the factory, humans can maintain control and awareness thanks to cloud-based communication – for example, tracking and influencing production progress via smartphones.
Innovative partners for new business models
KUKA has a strong history of collaborating with innovative partners to provide customers a comprehensive ecosystem for flexible Industrie 4.0 solutions. In the future, our customers will be able to easily monitor, link and control their entire production process. This year another highlight was the start-up partnership company Connyun, founded by KUKA, which connects robots and machines via cloud technology. In addition, the young company Roboception, with which KUKA is involved, demonstrated research regarding 3D perception for robotic systems.
KUKA Innovation Award for young scientists
Whether an airbag system for human-robot collaboration, robot use for human rescue or new automation solutions for finishing processes, young researchers from all over the world have presented their final projects. Over the course of only a few months, they’ve taken them from concept to finished project using KUKA products. Each year the award topic changes, and this year each team addressed the topic of “Advanced Mechatronics.” An international expert jury chose the winners of the science contest endowed with 20,000 euros at the KUKA booth. The researchers of Team RAS won with their innovative airbag system.
KUKA digitizes the customer experience
The new KUKA Marketplace (shop.kuka.com), with KUKA Connect and KUKA College training courses, plays an important role in networked production. As a cloud-based software platform, KUKA Connect allows KUKA customers to access and analyze their KUKA robots at any time from any place with an internet connection. In this way, customers can bring their products to market faster, increase efficiency and introduce innovations more easily. Through KUKA marketplace, KUKA College now offers advanced training simply by finding and booking online KUKA training seminars.
