EOS, one of the world’s leading technology suppliers in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, has refined one of its most successful systems even further with its FORMIGA P 110 Velocis: Based on the FORMIGA P 110 for additive manufacturing (AM) with plastic materials, Velocis, thanks to technical improvements, offers increases in productivity of up to 20 percent, along with more homogeneous part quality.
As compact-class additive manufacturing system, the solution is ideal for entry into the area of industrial 3D printing – from rapid prototyping applications to cost-efficient small series production. With an installed base of more than 550 systems, the machines of the FORMIGA family are among the most successful and reliable industrial 3D printers for polymer materials on the market.
More efficiency at proven quality
The additive manufacturing process has been further optimized with the FORMIGA P 110 Velocis; the basis for the improvement is an accelerated heating and re-coating process as well as an improved temperature distribution in the build chamber of the system. To this end, the new FORMIGA is equipped with an improved heating system and software control to preheat the polymer material. After first being applied to the construction platform as a thin layer, the material is pre-heated even faster now and after that fused precisely using a laser beam. The platform is then lowered and another layer of powder is applied. This construction process is repeated until the component is built completely. As a result of the improvements, the nonproductive time of the FORMIGA P 110 Velocis is reduced substantially, with outstanding part mechanics.
Smart start in industrial 3D printing
Like its predecessor systems, the FORMIGA P 110 Velocis is well suited for companies that would like to get into industrial 3D printing. The system is highly reliable and offers users the greatest reproducible part quality, setting “FORMIGA quality” as a standard in the market of layer manufacturing technologies. Without requiring tools, the FORMIGA makes direct use of digital CAD data to produce even delicate polymer parts with the highest surface quality to a maximum construction height of 330 mm. Furthermore, users profit from a broad range of currently 10 polymer materials and thanks to an intuitive user interface, the FORMIGA P 110 Velocis is also very user-friendly.
According to Moritz Kügler, Product Manager at EOS: “The systems of the FORMIGA family have always been distinguished by reliability and productivity. At the same time, the running costs are reduced by being confined to the materials and electricity used – no auxiliary materials are needed, keeping operating costs calculably low. It is precisely for these reasons that our existing customers appreciate this product series. With the FORMIGA P 110 Velocis, we have refined one of our most successful FORMIGA models. Particularly in combination with the EOS consulting portfolio, even newcomers can quickly build up know-how and experience and start with industrial 3D printing.” And he continues: “It is important for companies to consider 3D printing now and not succumb to any false awe of the technology. Because it is possible to produce parts in very high and reliable quality, even with an affordable entry into additive manufacturing. And with EOS, companies have a partner at their side with great experience and all the necessary competencies for AM serial production.”
EOS presents new FORMIGA at Rapid.Tech
From June 5–7, 2018, visitors to Rapid.Tech in Germany will be able to see a FORMIGA P 110 Velocis in action at the EOS booth, 2-509, along with an EOS M 100 for additive manufacturing with metal materials. In addition to its systems, EOS will show examples of applications from numerous industries to show how companies are successfully leveraging additive manufacturing.
