Under the brand name VINCORION, the mechatronic business will present its products and key competencies in aviation, security & defense as well as the railway industry in a focused way in future.
“As a consequence, we will able to meet the demands of our mechatronic business much better. At the same time, we are refining the profile of the Jenoptik brand for our business activities in photonics and optoelectronics,” says Jenoptik President & CEO Dr. Stefan Traeger.
At the beginning of February 2018, the Executive Board announced the group’s “Strategy 2022”. In essence, Jenoptik will be concentrating on photonic technologies for high-growth markets and clustering its activities based on the same business models and a common understanding of markets and customers. The main focus for strategy implementation in 2018 is establishing a new organizational structure, realigning the Asian businesses, and launching a new brand for the mechatronic business. “With this and other projects, we are on our way to implement our strategy,” says Dr. Stefan Traeger.
As of 2019, operational activities of Jenoptik will be concentrated in three divisions: “Light & Optics” (OEM business), “Light & Production” (industrial customers) and “Light & Safety” (public-sector customers). These three divisions share core competencies in photonics. This includes expertise in optics, sensors, imaging, robotics, data analysis, and human-machine interfaces. The activities of today’s Defense & Civil Systems division that are based on mechatronic technologies will be carried out under the new, independent brand VINCORION.
“We are launching the new brand for our mechatronic business in September 2018 and thus earlier than planned, after seven months of intense work. We would like to thank our colleagues who have worked under extreme pressure on the evaluation, development and implementation,” says Dr. Stefan Stenzel, Head of Jenoptik’s Defense & Civil Systems division, which will become VINCORION as of 2019. All photonics-based business activities in this division, meaning the sensors business and Hillos GmbH—the joint venture with HILTI—will belong to the new Light & Optics division as of 2019.
VINCORION stands for more than 60 years of tailored technology
Under the new brand name VINCORION, Jenoptik’s mechatronic business unites a 60-year success story of tailored technological solutions in energy supply, drive and stabilization technologies, and other specialized products for defense & security, aviation and the railway industry. This business is shaped by long-term customer relationships connected with platform subsystems, which are primarily directed towards international system companies. In most cases, these are preceded by many years of developmental collaboration. Among the important products are, for example, the power supply for the Patriot Missile Defense System, electric gun turret stabilization for the Leopard 2 tank, and generators to provide on-board power for special vehicles. In 1994, Jenoptik acquired former ESW-Extel Systems in Wedel, Germany, and then, in 2004, Lechmotoren GmbH, headquartered in Altenstadt, Bavaria. In the past five years, globalization of the business has been at the foreground in terms of development. Revenue of the mechatronic business in the Defense & Civil Systems division was around 175 million euros in 2017.
VINCORION is a name created by combining several elements: the Latin word “vinco”, meaning “I win,” the English word CORE and the name ORION, the great, powerful hunter from Greek mythology, for whom a star constellation is named. These linguistic roots make VINCORION a classical name, which expresses strength, confidence, trust, and competence. Another decisive factor in choosing this name was that it is memorable and has proven to make a positive impression in all relevant languages for our global business.
With the new brand name VINCORION, the corporate group now ensures a more focused approach in the relevant target markets than before under the Jenoptik brand name. The individual, tailored solutions are based primarily on mechatronic technologies.
